Tulip Farella is the serving President of the United Kingdom, and is a member of The People's Party. She has been President since June this year and since election has liberated Britain from the clutches of Ireland, Canada and the USA. But her Presidency has seen little economic change and progression and the Government becoming inactive on Social Issues. This election she faces questions over who she will pick to be her new Chancellor and whether we could see greater Social intervention in the future. I interviewed her about her bid to be re-elected:

AJ99: Tulip Farella, thank you for agreeing to an interview. How would you rate your Presidency so far? What do you think you've done well? What are your biggest failures or errors? If re-elected how do you intend to go forward?

TF: I'd rate it about normal and there isn't really anything that's could be described as gone well or failed.
In an average day I'm around for 18 hours, talk to the people who are in the irc make decisions depending on whats happening.
Going forward is just simply being available and doing what needs to be done.

AJ99: You don't appear to have a guiding vision going forward? Don't you think a President needs a clear vision for the future and would you also not think it's important for a President to be able to know how they've done so far and what's gone badly?

TF: The job of the president is to discuss with congress and make decisions for the good of the country, a 'guiding vision' sounds a bit pompous, We have a descent economy and allies that's what i want to maintain.
If things were going badly people would be telling me that and I've had no complaints so that's the measure of how well I've done. The job of leading isn't a popularity contest, its about doing what's needed even if someone doesn't agree.
Answering a question like "How would you rate your Presidency so far" or "What do you think you've done well" answering positively sounds arrogant. Answering modestly sounds weak i can't win!

AJ99: It's not arrogant. It shows a degree of self awareness, and I think the people want a President, who yes, can discuss Policy but also has an aim, and a vision for the future of the sort of world their aiming for to help shape Policy around. If re-elected, what will be your approach to our ongoing wars with Northern Ireland and USA?

TF: Attack is the best form of defence, Ireland attacked us twice, which we won, instead of sitting here waiting for them to re-attack I thought we'd get in first.
North East England is the bridge to Europe, so N Ireland is a critical region.

AJ99: So are you open to peace talks or will you attempt to conquer USA and Ireland?

TF: Its not about conquering, just showing we won't sit here and wait to be attacked. Its Unity/Hydra vs everyone else, and that's likely to continue for ages. I haven't actually spoken to the Irish for that reason, unlikely we'll get peace, better to fight than lie down.

AJ99: My question was if you'd go as far as to conquer them, which you haven't answered.

TF: Its not about conquering just gaining and holding regions, defending against resistance wars. We gain regions by winning, but those alliances are some of the biggest country's, so its uneven. Realistically its highly unlikely we will conquer them but we need to keep them away from the continent.

AJ99: Is it not the better strategy to continue fighting but simultaneously negotiating peace, or at least fighting a pure defensive war to avoid attention being taken away from domestic policy to be put on to war?

TF: Fighting defensively isn't the way. The UK has some good fighters and MU's lets use them.

AJ99: But if we don't want real control over the other countries, what's the point when we can launch further development here in the UK whilst holding our enemies off?

TF: Because fighting defensively is weak, by showing were not afraid we're less of a target. We been occupied for some time by different countries and war is good for the economy. There is no point making guns, bread and presents if no-one buys them.

AJ99: We won't look weak by fighting and back and winning whilst still enriching our domestic and economic prosperity. Speaking of which, what are your economic and Social policies, and how do you intend to move forward with Social Policy now that MoHA is no more?

TF: Economically; keep an eye on treasury and adjust taxes as required. Those changes are for one CP term, but if any need adjusting because they are obviously wrong then we will.
Socially; losing MoHA was a shame, but your 'National Conversation Day' was a brilliant idea, and I think we should bring that back. Post a shout, and keep it in the comments within that one post.
There is of course the IRC; we are in there just need more people to come in especially congress.
It gets lonely with just us four.

AJ99: Would you consider the idea of replacing the Official Ministry of Home Affairs with an unofficial advisor or Minister so that people know that you're still dedicated to Social policy and strong community?

TF: Yes, we can just have a moha spokesman and newspaper, which will be listed in the govt positions.
Just because they removed the official account shouldn't stop us having one.

AJ99: I'm sure your continued dedication to Social Policy will please many voters. Now, on the economy. The President's choice of Chancellor is very important. The person chosen shows what direction the President wants to move in. The Chancellor is in charge of the most important area of Policy. The public will judge a President on the quality of their Chancellor. It is regrettable that Lopnogob has had to stand down, and I hope that his stable and trustworthy hands will be back when everything is ok IRL, but a new Chancellor must be appointed, at least on a temporary basis. Given the fact that the choice of Chancellor shows a lot about a President, how can the people judge how your Presidency will continue when you've not so much as suggested some possible replacements, whilst ArchDukeJohn has clearly shown who will lead the economy if he was President. Have you got a name or have you at least got a clue of where you're going economically and from which Party you're looking to take a Chancellor from?

TF: I didn't want to announce a name until someone had spoken to me about it, and I don't know how many people have read my candidature, as no-one asked about it I mailed both you and ArchDukeJohn about it and you've both said you'd be interested. In fairness you can each do it a couple of days at a time that way there's a minister from two parties.
Lopnogob has done it for so long it'll be strange not having him do it but I have spoken to him and he's told me what he was doing, at what rates he was buying and selling for so there'll be no problem someone else doing it.

AJ99: But what do you think the best economic approach is? People need to know where their Candidates stand on the economy. Yes, ok, you've been President for a while now so people have had time to see your approach, but we're getting a new Chancellor now, so there's an opportunity for radical change or continued path and people should know where you want to go, that and also ArchDukeJohn has clearly set out his economic message.

TF: Economics is simply setting taxes so that government gets income from both the VAT and income tax, and the import tax is low for things we don't produce, and high on things that we do produce.
Then you monitor supply and demand and the markets and adjust taxes accordingly.
Those tax changes are optimal and can be adjusted as needs demand, but having an agenda where some taxes are high for 'luxury' items, and others are low doesn't work in e-sim, this isn't the real world, we have a small worker base.

AJ99: It still can work, and if you place those higher taxes on less essential items, you can put lower taxes on more important products. But that wasn't my question. What sort of approach would you be looking at? Would you want to keep things basically the same as now, or would you look for radical change in the form of tax changes and the introduction of Socialist policies, such as ArchDukeJohn's minimum wage proposal, which although difficult to enforce, can still encourage fairness and is workable? What sort of economic approach are you going to adopt going forward - people deserve the right to know what sort of economics and politics they're voting for before they vote for you.

TF: I will keep things as they are I don't intend to change anything. With the minimum wage; most of us work for MU companies, where your paid one pound, but get supplies, so you don't actually need a minimum wage.
Currency can be bought with gold earnt from BH's and worker/trainer medals for tickets.

AJ99: And what about people who don't? Although, in practice it may not be always needed, surely it will drive up fairness, make life friendly for newer-players and easier for them to start off, with a decent wage, and help people who are maybe saving up money to start their own companies. Do you oppose all radical Socialist Policies like the Minimum wage or are there some things you would like to put in to action? And what would you say to people who suggest that the reason you oppose the minimum wage is because most of your British employees in your UK based companies are payed below the suggest £15, with the mode average being £10?

TF: I don't oppose a minimum wage i just think it wouldn't be practical. I think the wages are good for new players don't forget they have a low level economy skill which means they don't produce much. Econ lv 1 jobs are plentiful at £1, i pay £10 to pay them more and ideally they stay get stronger and produce more and the wages change at econ skill 5 7 and 9.

AJ99: Tulip Farella, thank you very much.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
