As announced, here's the following instalment of my serie of articles about the political crisis in France. I'm interviewing Jefiene, president of the Alternative Républicaine party, a major actor in this crisis. I must mention that when this interview took place, the results of the referendum (a resounding 114-37 success for the president Lapin who asked whether the French people wanted him to stay in power) weren't yet known.

Jiefene, you're the president of Alternative Républicaine, by far the largest party in France. Can you briefly present it?

Of course. The Alternative Républicaine is has been the first party in our country for a year and a half, it allowed most of the players currently active in our country's politics to join the community and to learn the ropes necessary to participate in a government. We even are lucky enough to include in our ranks many famous former french presidents, like cc92140 or Pierrhus. Finally, if I had to describe the Alternative Républicaine, for me it's simply the largest area of debate and political exchanges in our country.

It seems that the Alternative Républicaine, or at least some of its members is unhappy with the actions of president Lapin. Can you point out you criticisms and tell me if in your opinion, this perception is widespread amongst the party's members?

Some of the party's members are unsatisfied, indeed. I'm one of them but I don't want to talk on behalf of all members, I don't have the legitimacy for this, but I know that some are accusing Lapin of making FO [the French financial organization] into a profit factory instead of an engine for France's progress, of heading a clumsy diplomacy and of trying to cancel the already limited powers of the Congress with his proposal of a new national charter.

Myself, I find some accusations unfounded but nevertheless I don't appreciate Lapin, mostly due to his stiff home policy and to his "anti-Orion" witch hunt. You see, Orion did a lot for France (and not solely when it was in charge, that was an ironical statement made by one of our members that Lapin reused to his advantage) and I'm disgusted that players who have been active in our country for maybe two months criticize 18 months of faithful political and military service for our country.

Weirdly enough, president Lapin is himself a member of the Alternative Républicaine. Can you explain this contradiction?

No, as I said, the Alternative Républicaine has been the largest arena for partisan politics for a very long time which means that most active people in France joined us, and when 3/4th of a country's active players belong to the same community, of course there are sometimes disagreements. I believe the party as such is above that. It saw worst than that.

You will soon select the official candidates of the the AR for the Congress election. You're accused of doing so in a very selective way, letting run only those you know are opponents to the president. What do you have to say?

Bah, I'm accused of only presenting oponents to the current government, that's true, but people who are so riled up can only accuse themselves. I had stated at the beginnig that I would present 8 candidates including at most only one member of the cabinet, and that's what I did.

Because I kept 8 anti-Lapin candites, indeed, but do you know how many acceptable candidates I had to begin with? 10, hence roughly the only polemical political removals are those of FMSK3E and Max_44. That's two disputable choices, and I had more or less warned about them during my campaign for the party's presidency. In my view, there's nothing scandalous, all my candidates are people who have already been congressmen or members of the government in the past, and who are able to hold the congress, because remember, the point of Congress election is electing congressmen!

You're accused of preparing a PTO to overthrow president Lapin following the election of the new congress. Some even mention a civil war. Is there any truth to this?

Some people want to impeach Lapin, yes, but there won't be a PTO. No foreign force is involved despite what some try to believe in order to diabolize their political oponents.

Otherwise, I don't think one could refer to a Civil war, it's rather a return to a more normal political life with more commited people. Some react rather agressively which is normal considering that they've been playing for two or three months and don't realize that Lapin isn't the only one who can head the country, by far, so obviously they dramatize a bit. That said, after the bad feelings that accumulated during the last weeks, it isn't unconceivable that it could degenerate into a Civil War.

What do you think of the recent decision of president Lapin to start a referendum asking for the support of the French people? If he wins this referendum, will it change your position and that of the AR?

I don't really know what to think, this looks like a desperate move by someone who lacks arguments, the way I see it, if the YES wins, it won't change my position because the way this referendum has been conceived, it can hardly gives another result than a large success for YES.

Regarding the AR once again we are a real community within the community and during domestic strifes each one is entitled to his opinion, I don't impose mes ideas on anybody and I never expressed them in the party's forum because as party president I don't think it's my job to tell other members what they should think, they are grown up.

Something else you want to add?

Yes, I want to thank you for this interview that allows me to give some beginnings of explanations because, you see, lately many insulting and false things have been said, I deplore that because for me a domestic political crisis must be settled between the involved people, while here, clearly by washing our dirty linen in everybody's view we're heading towards a deeper divide in our community and I think that eventually everybody is going to lose, and France most of all.

Because yes, some state thay're the real legitimate people concerned with the well being of the country, but in truth we all want the well being of the country even though we don't all have the same perception of it and clearly by fighting like mangy dogs or toddlers we don't help improving the political debate, because, yes, the current debate is legitimate and necessary in order to put an end to the malaise that penetrated our community during the last weeks. But I don't think that the way it's currently conducted (by way of immature shouts or insults on IRC) is constructive and I hope that afterward everybody will realize the stupidity of his own actions during this period.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
