Sights of early campaigning. Signs of extortion. Emanations of "Padrino" System. These are few of the things that caught my eyes here for the past few days with regards to the upcoming Congressional Elections. I'm sure that these things are not just showing in the ePhilippines as Congressional Elections nears, but also to other countries as well. Some want to control the government for their personal benefit. Others just want to boast about their seat in the congress and their congress medal once they are voted and won. And to a few people, they just don't know how to act like a congressman/congresswoman.
To us, the congress plays a very vital role in the progression of any country, even in real life. Once seated, the congress members can alter the course of a country to its glory or its dismay. They can do acts and laws for a month without hindering them to do so (and you might be surprised on what can they do for that period of time). But before the congress aspirants become winners and losers on the 25th of October, let's discuss about the controversies about this upcoming elections:
1) Sights of early campaigning
This issue is not new, even in real life. Even if they are not yet officially candidates for the elections, they have already started campaigning; some of them are now getting bothersome. There is no e-Sim law that states that early campaigning is illegal in this game, but does an aspirant really have to campaign so hard just to gather votes in the elections? Should a candidate secure his/her slot first to be in the official list of candidates (the persons, under a political party, who submitted their candidature for congress will be selected first by their party leader a day before the elections) before he/she starts campaigning? The voters are just there, waiting for the right candidate to strike through their hearts in order to convince them to vote in the candidate's favor. There's no need to rush things.
2) Signs of extortion
"If you will not vote for me, I'll: kill/hunt/report you / remove you from our MU / etc."
Sounds familiar, right? Why do people force others to do things that they don't want to do? Why do they need to threaten their fellowmen in order to get what they wanted? Are they scared to lose their opportunity to win? Have they lost the trust that they have earned from the voters? What are they really running for: their right to serve the people in a national scale or the genuine power that they will get and use it for their personal benefit?
To the voters: you may look at this article to choose your candidate for congress: Next In Line: Your Guide In Choosing The Next President . Even though it's intended for the presidential elections, the guidelines will still be the same.
To the candidates for congress: you better stop the extortion. You may win the congressional race, but your conscience will haunt you forever.
3) Padrino System
(The picture may not represent the Padrino System, but still, as the upper right side of the picture above shows, there's the principle of "control".
What does the Padrino System really mean?
The Padrino System or "patronage" in the Filipino culture and politics is the value system where one gains favor, promotion, or political appointment through family affiliation (nepotism) or friendship (cronyism), as opposed to one's merit. It has been an open secret that one cannot join the political arena of the Philippines without mastery of the Padrino System. It is expected that one gains political debts and dispenses political favor to advance one's career or influence, if not wealth. (Source: Wikipedia)
Here in e-Sim, it's more likely to be through cronyism. A player must join a party (as needed in a mission). Some may ask what party would be the best to join. Others of course will reply and will say: "Tara! Sama ka sa party namin. (Come! Join our party.)" I've been thinking of what other roles does a political party have to a person aside from congress elections. Most of time, there's NONE.
Do you know that some PPs (Political Parties) rig the congress elections? That's a whole different story but let's not meddle on that issue. Hehe.
4) Misbehavior and having no right conduct
Some people just want to enter the congress, yet their behavior is not qualified to become one, not even close. Do you want a leader whose mouth is very foul? Do you want a congress member having a rude attitude? Having a very high GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct) grade during your elementary/primary school days may not be a requirement in joining the congress but please, you're too old enough to know what's right or wrong, right? So if you want to become a legislator, act like one in terms of behavior. BE AN EXAMPLE TO THE COMMUNITY.
Batu-bato sa langit, ang tamaan, huwag magagalit.
Some even say: "Batu-bato sa langit, ang tamaan, may bukol." Kidding aside, whoever finds this article irritating because it's true to him or her, well... hehe...
In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth.
Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit
different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be
efficiently
managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation.
Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the
game.
Work for the good of your country and
see it rise to an empire.
Activities in this game are divided into several modules.
First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you
will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress
as a fighter.
You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which
are owned by the state.
After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your
own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock
company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.
In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.
The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics
in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes.
From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability
to run for the head of the party you're in.
You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws
proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself.
Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you.
You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential
elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state
(for example, who to declare war on).
Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have
a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.
You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.
The international war.
The last and probably the most important module is military.
In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control
over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials.
For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have
to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on
their territory.
You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life
as a pacifist
who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling
products).
At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.
E-Sim is a unique browser game.
It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present
in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth
according to their own.
So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
