Given that I have not written an article in ages, I thought this was a good moment to break the draught, especially when it may well be my last . I would not put effort into any fancy pics and stuff because...well,it can get deleted at any point anyway...or perhaps "reset" as its the more up to date term now.
First it was the second server aka Secura - something that even the money-hungry admins from the other, more successful game of this type, never dared to do i.e. practically splitting the community. The ultimate reason being is that primera should stay gold-buy free area. This was what differentiated e-sim after all - what allegedly made it unique! How can that be removed? Yet, It was kinda like choosing between dying from being burned or being drowned. At the end, e-sim went for both because as we all know by now, we still got the gold-buying option...worse...we got it after a spell where also a bunch of Bonus gold shenanigans had to come up(so pissing off even more players along the way). But enough of that. Anyone keeping at least one eye on e-sim would have realised that this was sort of messed up so I’m not discovering the hot water by bringing it up.
What I want to discuss is the actual changes at hand. I know the vast majority of players realise what they mean but a few would be naive enough to see it as a good thing. And yes,I know my economy skill which should automatically put me into the “No!” camp but that’s a very tiny issue considering the big picture. Lets look at the main components due for reset:
Strength - Since this levels the playing field, it makes no difference between players as far as relative damage in battles is concerned (along with medal hunting). The issue I have with this is that its rather unneccessary when any semi-determined e-sim player would know to have picked up the rather cheap premium and gain max or close to max strength. This catch up component of the game is itself an insult towards older players but it already exists anyway, making strength reset pointless. It actually gets to annoy the newer players more give that they possibly used gold for premiums or...worse...gold-buyers that spent cash in order to then get the premium for extra strength!
Economy Skill - Unlike the above, the current system is indeed flawed. It doesnt allow for any catching up and at the same time we all knew that at some point in future, we are going to reach a situation where most old players will simply produce their own stuff for daily fights. Well, at my current skill, I am still not able to fight daily even with q1 weapons so this is not an urgent problem. More importantly, it still leaves the door open for another reset whenever new gap between new and old players emerges again.
Military Ranks - Well, suddenly being in a farm mode turned out to be a good thing in this game. The naive folk that actually decided to play the game in the way its meant to be player - by fighting turned out to be the ones to pay the price now. This will create a huge change in the well being between players. The ones that 2 clicked and farmed would gain an advantage while even an old player that simply works in MU company for daily supplies, keeping nothing for himself, would end up rather poor. As far as it seems, there is no mechanism to compensate for that in a just way.
There are various other things that will be reset (full list on the wiki ) but, if anything, they will mostly damage the roleplay aspect of the game. Some of it would be a real shame to disappear as history is one of the things that’s great to be able to trace in this game. Anything we possess will not get taken away which should make me somewhat pleased and not giving a toss about the economy skill but here is the thing – it just so it happened! There are a lot of online games nowadays where people fight over pixels, even pay real life money over pixels. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a form of entertainment for players while it’s a business for developers. Yet in the vast majority of those, developers would try their hardest to make sure that those pixels are protected! Players would not wish to see some or all of their content wiped (by accident or otherwise) at some point, regardless if they paid money or spent the time. It’s the same as rational companies not bothering to invest in risky countries in real life if they suspect that at any time the government can go nuts and seize their assets. This is the real problem of e-sim! By making this reset, a line of breaking the trust gets crossed from which there is no turning back. No guarantees for future resets, for even more substantial ones where also the players’ items will be removed and so on. With what kind of dedication would someone play this game then, let alone pay for it?!?
I would not go as far as to say that this is the end of Primera. People will leave, others will stay looking forward to being “equal” to one another. What proportion will each represent, I would not dare to predict but would be shocked if the latter is the majority. I expect some people (possibly me included) would stay out of curiosity for the new content but even then I would not put effort to do much. The most likely situation is the game going into a limbo where it neither fully dies(so long as admin doesnt pull the plug) nor actually having much activity. After all, Pandora’s box is about to open.
P.s – The way admin’s article puts up a rather pointless question on whether players want new countries or not is rather insulting. The roughly 45-55% division is about right but we all know what a more appropriate question would have been and how responses would be skewed.
In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth.
Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit
different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be
efficiently
managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation.
Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the
game.
Work for the good of your country and
see it rise to an empire.
Activities in this game are divided into several modules.
First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you
will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress
as a fighter.
You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which
are owned by the state.
After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your
own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock
company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.
In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.
"E-Sim is one of the most unique browser games out there"
Become an influential politician.
The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics
in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes.
From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability
to run for the head of the party you're in.
You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws
proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself.
Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you.
You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential
elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state
(for example, who to declare war on).
Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have
a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.
You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.
The international war.
The last and probably the most important module is military.
In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control
over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials.
For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have
to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on
their territory.
You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life
as a pacifist
who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling
products).
At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.
E-Sim is a unique browser game.
It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present
in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth
according to their own.
So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
