Taking Care of Business

It took me a lot longer than it should have to come up with a song that sort of explains why I'm not running for Congress again. Possibly because there are a few reasons why I'm not running again, you can take your pick from the following list:

1. I accomplished the one stated goal I had. I wanted to see the creation of a mentor program, and I am happy to say that has happened, albeit not as a result of my being in Congress. As was pointed out to me it's essentially not a Congressional issue, it's a Cabinet issue and thus the President's job to figure out more or less. While it would appear the responses to the Mentor Program have been less than stellar I do still have faith in the program, the people that are responding I feel are much more likely to stay now that they have someone to turn to from day 1 for any help they might need in game, and the value of that cannot be overstated, especially while we are in the midst of a baby-boom.

2. When I first got a Cabinet level position under then President Liquid HOMICIDE he asked me because he was starting to think (or had been told) his cabinet was full of too many "oldfgts" as he put it. Basically, it can become too easy at times to stick with the status quo, things are going well in America, and have been, why mess with success? The problem with that mentality is that we should NOT be happy to just be doing well, because we can always do better. I had no ideas on what to do in Congress this term, but I am willing to bet there are a lot of younger, less well known players out there that are full of good ideas, and if the same people keep holding down those positions of power they will never really get an opportunity to voice their suggestions in a place where they can make a difference. We should constantly strive to improve, and to listen to our newer players, it can at times become easy for older, more established players to lose touch with the issues facing younger players, because they might not affect us anymore. So I am leaving my spot to give someone else an opportunity.

3. I was frankly frustrated with the lack of activity. There are a few Congress members that were active, and truly committed to improving America, and at the same time there were a number that I didn't even know were in Congress because they never said a word. I can't work in a place where half of the people are there for the sole purpose of free gold, or some sort of name recognition that makes them feel self important. If you want to be in Congress then be prepared to work, or at least add your thoughts to the work others are doing, we don't need people that are there just to feel cool because they won a popularity contest(At the end of the day that really is what Congress is here, but if you have ideas do NOT let that discourage you).

4. A bit of the old burnout problem. Between Congress, Secretary of Defense, and being an Officer in Army I find I am spending way too much time on this game far too often, and frankly juggling those duties in addition to the various things I have going on in real life has become difficult, so I'm taking one of them out of the equation.

At the end of my term I am indifferent about Congress as a whole, I felt like we got very little accomplished, which is frustrating because I really did have high hopes for this past month. Towards the end a couple discussions got started that I think could really benefit America down the line, but the work wasn't finished. Frankly I feel like I failed America in my month in Congress, more could have, and should have been done. In games like this I have never held any kind of position of power in the past, and there has always been a reason for that, primarily it tends to involve a lot of work unless you're happy to waste everyone’s time.

All of that having been said I do think that Congress can change things for the better in America. Whether or not that happens though depends on YOU. If you go out and just vote for someone because they're your friend, or you recognize their name and they have no ideas, or any kind of a plan when they enter Congress then don't be surprised when nothing is accomplished yet again. I would rather see people in Congress with ideas I disagree with, then people that have no ideas at all. So for those of you that haven't voted yet, please give your vote some real thought, there are plenty of good candidates out there, really look at what they want to accomplish, and ask yourself if their goals are something you agree with, or if they even have a goal, and make the right decision.

In other news, for those of you maybe unaware, I am currently the Secretary of Defense, and on that topic I really don't have much to report. The Portugal war clearly did not work out as we had hoped, and we are currently in a stalemate that has resulted in neither of us doing anything in that war. This is a good thing, it has allowed the US to focus on helping our Ally Sweden in their war against Lithuania.

Well, I suppose this is long enough, so, until next time, Fight Right America.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
