到了和平建设的年代里，那些曾经立下过无数战功的解放军人们，纷纷放下枪杆，拿起铁锹和榔头，为社会主义建设添砖加瓦。但很多文人的脑袋却转不过弯来，不愿意走出书斋、停下笔杆，去做一些社会上迫切需要的工作——例如说到乡下扫盲、普及基础教育之类。
而当时的中国穷困至极，百废待兴，还有朝鲜战争的巨大开销，实在是养不起一帮小资情调的文人了。
于是，就发生了让“百岁学者”周有光感到义愤填膺的一幕：1953年，上海实行工资改革，对待收入最高的大学教授和银行工作人员，取消原来待遇的80%。100元改为20元；200元改为40元；300元改为60元。周有光对此愤愤不平地骂道：“……民国脑力劳动者待遇高于今天，共产主义从一开始就不承认中产阶级，把中产阶级归入资产阶级。后来，掀起“反右”运动，更加深入地、全面地否认中产阶级……改革的第二天，人人眼睛朝下，见面不打招呼了！晴天霹雳，中产阶级贫穷化！”
拜托！想要给社会制造出一个稳固的中产阶级，有哪个国家是靠给吃财政饭的公务员大幅度加薪来实现的啊！而是要大家自己想办法创业，自己赚钱啊！举个例子来说，当今只有1100万人口的希腊，在21世纪初加入欧元区之后，硬是养了100万吃财政饭的公务员，自以为搞成全民中产阶级的“完美社会”了。结果随着2008年金融危机爆发，如今的希腊都变成什么模样了？说国将不国都是轻的！
在我看来，假如这些“砖家叫兽”觉得生活不够宽裕，嫌钱少的话，那你就去出书写文章，赚稿费和版税啊！如果当真能够写出什么畅销书，甚至进一步改编成电影、电视剧甚至网络游戏，月入几十万上百万的话，想来也没有多少人会感到愤愤不平，正如同当今社会看待那些成功企业家一样。
五、民国地主不好当
之前闲扯了这么多有些跑题的话，主要是为了戳破某些民国崇拜者，简称“国粉”的真面目。以及那些高雅的“民国范儿”在一般庶民眼中的荒诞。否则，不管我怎样描绘民国时代的日常生活，都总是会有人提出这些“历史发明家”的“新观点”，“证明”我写的都是一派胡言，并且指责我是在为共党粉饰历史。
下面言归正传，如果要穿越到民国时代，你会穿越到民国时代的什么地方？
——民国是一个新旧交替的时代，从沿海到内陆，在全中国的不同地域之间，社会面貌差异极大。
当上海滩的十里洋场，已经亮起了绚丽多彩的霓虹灯光之际；西藏拉萨的农奴庄园，还处于中世纪的愚昧黑暗之中。英国人曾经把一辆小汽车拆卸开来，用驮马背着，翻山越岭、千辛万苦地运到拉萨。结果在拉萨把汽车拼装起来之后一看，发现这里首先没有司机，其次没有汽油，最后没有汽车能跑的路……
鉴于上述种种天壤之别般的差异，所以我们在具体描述民国生活的时候，只能选择一些比较有代表性的地区作为样本，从而以小见大，映射出整个民国年代的社会风貌。
必须要明确一点，那些穿越到民国的现代人，在可以选择的情况下，除了少数想要搞红色革命的人之外，应该都不会愿意去当中下贫农或者拉黄包车的。而想要在民国时代过得比较体面，那么在乡下似乎就得当地主老财，在城里则要当小资阔少，或者索性直接当官走仕途……
在这里，我们首先来讨论一下民国时代地主们的生活。
在老一辈的很多人心中，最为经典的民国地主形象，恐怕莫过于《白毛女》当中的那位黄世仁了——他们通过巧夺豪取占有了大量的土地，并且利用掌握的土地残酷剥削农民，不劳而获，侵吞着农民创造的财富，过着荒淫无耻的生活。
与现代那些经营大农场的农业资本家不同，那些传统的中国地主们，似乎根本不用关心选育良种、租用农业机械、采购化肥和农药，也不用关心如何兴修灌溉水利工程，而是把一切交给农民自己打理。
平时，这些地主们坐在家里只管享乐，有事情还可以征发佃农无偿服役。到了秋收的时候，就让管家带着一帮狗腿子到田间去挨家挨户地收租。万一年景不好收不上租子，则逼迫农民卖儿卖女来抵债，或者发一点善心，酌情允许他们减一点租子，基本上跟现代公司里那些等着分红的大股东差不多。
如此说来，地主的生活应该是十分轻松悠闲的啰？
……这个……怎么说呢？像这样悠闲宽裕的地主生活，在清朝的太平年景里倒是还有可能出现。可是到了兵荒马乱的民国年代……呃……只能说正应了那句老话：“地主家也没有余粮哇！”
总之，民国时代的地主，并不怎么好当。
首先，民国年代是一个战乱频繁的时代，全国各地到处都是横行肆虐的军阀和土匪。四川从1911年保路运动开始到抗战前夕，一直在断断续续地打川军内战；河北省（当时叫做直隶）虽然位于京畿，却也因此而成了直皖战争，直奉战争，第二次直奉战争，以及蒋介石二次北伐的主战场。
更惨的则是河南地区，正所谓争天下必争中原，作为内战的重灾区，河南省在整个民国时代，总是不断地被各路北洋军阀还有流寇们一遍遍地洗劫——白朗起义、镇嵩军、巨匪“老洋人”、红枪会、冯玉祥的国民军、北伐战争、蒋介石在1930年的中原大战……最后全省流窜着40万土匪，几乎被打烂了。
在如此频繁的战乱之中，不要说升斗小民的骨头都填了沟壑，就连地主士绅的生命也毫无保障。

Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.
Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.
Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.
In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.
Become an influential politician.
The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.
You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.
The international war.
The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).
