One of the great things about this game is that it stretches far beyond the game it self. There is irc and forums. However I want to find out a bit more about how man people use it, and why people use it or don't use it.

First of all I'll explain what they are. irc, is a chat system where people in e-Sim talk. There are different channels. There's channels for countries, MU's, trade channels and much more. See here for the main ones. If you want to join go here. Note, this'll take you to the Australian one, so if you're not Australian just go /join (channel name here, see above.) If you want to have the link so it goes straight to your one just write a shout asking and you'll get one immediately.

The forums is where you discuss things going on the game. Weather it be cs applications, MU talks, congress discussions or just anything on your mind you have to be there! Also in the official e-Sim one, (unlike the country one I described before), has bug fixes, game suggestions, new modules and all that. Here's the link to the Australian one, and here's the link for the official e-Sim one.

Anyway, onto the main part, the questionnaire. I'll show you the results in about two days. The questionnaire is here. Please fill it out!

I don''t like IRC because in the UK everything is normally run by the sane people.

Government.
President.
Congress.
IRC admins.

Blah blah blah

I think poor game design forces the users to find remedies through other channels. When I first saw irc in the game, it reminded me the mIrc & icq days of 15 years ago. I was surprised to see pro web 1.0 technologies like internet relay chat are still being used today.

If the game had provided a global market where you can trade in gold, than the people would not need to go through tricks to get goods out of stock companies to sell in #strade. Examples like this can be extented.

Most of the inadequacies of the game are either closed by extensive moderator policing (which itself is very problematic since the human factor can cause lots of injustice, especially when the moderators are players themselves), or by people looking for solutions outside the game.

This should not be presented as a great thing.

Who wants to type /msg NickServ identify myGeekPassword to play a game?

One of the main reason why it took me awhile to get into IRC or the forum is because I never played a game that used 3 separate platform where you had a site for the game, another site for the forum and a different site for the chat room. It takes some getting use to because most games are connected or at-least appear to be connected with their own forum and chat room...I like it, but it's not something everyone is open to as you do have to let it grow on you a little
